Basic Rules of The League
- Eight players in a team.
- Each innings consists of 10 six ball overs and must be completed within 30 minutes (5 runs will be awarded to the batting team for every one minute that it runs over the specified time)
- The choice of innings is decided by a toss, which should be completed by team captains 5 minutes before your scheduled start time. If your team are late, the toss will be forfeited to the other team. If minimum of six players are not ready by the start time of the match, the match will be forfeited.
- There will be a maximum of 2 minutes in between each innings.
- Winning teams will be decided by which team scores the most runs in their innings.
- The fielding team will be made up of 8 players at a time however substitutes can be used whilst fielding so that a team can rotate players. A fielding team substitution can be made whenever the ball is dead. All fielding players including substitutes may bowl at any time. When batting, only 8 selected players may bat with no substitutions.
Power Play
- 2 overs power play in each inning (only 1 fielder allowed on the boundary wall).
- Both teams will choose when they want to play their power play over. One over to be decided by the batting team and one over to be decided by the bowling team.
- Batting team to choose their power play over in the first 5 overs and the fielding team to choose their power play over in the second part of the innings.
Batting
- Batters will bat in pairs.
- Batting innings will finish once the 10 overs will be bowled or 7 wickets down.
- Shots that hit the boundary wall without making contact with the ground, count as “six” runs.
- Shots that hit the boundary wall after making contact with the ground, count as “four” runs.
- As per the laws of cricket, once the ball has hit the boundary wall for either a ‘four’ or ‘six’, the ball is dead; no further runs can be scored and no wickets can be taken.
- As per the laws of cricket, if the ball strikes the boundary wall on an overthrow, it shall count as four, in addition to any other runs scored, and the ball shall be dead.
- The batting side will be awarded “one” run each time the ball makes contact with a side wall . This applies to runs, byes, leg byes, wides, and overthrows, in addition to any other runs scored.
- The batting side shall score “one” run for completing a run between the wickets.
- The striker shall be caught out if the ball is caught off from one or more side walls with one hand.
- The LBW dismissal will not be a valid wicket.
- The ball shall be dead if it becomes stuck or trapped in any netting, gym equipment, or other obstruction in the field of play.
Bowling
- Maximum of two overs per bowler (which cannot be consecutive).
- Wides – Umpires will be strict on the off side and all balls that pass the batsman on the leg side will be called “wide”.
- No balls will be called for deliveries which pitch on the bowler’s side of the marked centre line. As per the Laws of Cricket, all balls that reach the batter on the full over waist height, and all balls pitching off the pitch, shall also be called no balls.
- 2 runs will be awarded to the batting team for all wides and no balls. Wides and no balls shall count in the over and wont be re-balled, subject to the rules below:
- If, in the Umpire’s opinion, a player deliberately bowls a no ball, leg side or wide at any stage of the game with intent to limit the batting sides run scoring opportunity, the Umpire may ask for the ball to be re-bowled whilst awarding two runs to the batsman. A warning to the bowler may or may not be given at the Umpire’s discretion.
- Wides and no balls shall not count in the over in the final over of each innings.
General Rules
- All rules shall be interpreted by the Umpire in accordance with “The Spirit Of The Game”.
- This standard shall override all rules above detailed and total discretionary power shall be left with the Umpire for their final decision after taking “The Spirit Of The Game” into account.
- All other aspects of the game not covered by the Indoor League rules will be governed by the ECB Laws of Cricket.
